Kazakhstan’s biggest boxing icon Genady Golovkin made his DAZN debut and shook off his 8-month ring rust by knocking out the previously undefeated Steve Rolls in their Middleweight match on Friday night inside the Madison Square Garden.
Golovkin gave the 35-year old Canadian his inaugural loss via a 2:09 fourth round triumph. This is his first taste of action since receiving his very own lone defeat at the hands of Mexican star Canelo Alvarez last September 2018 in a very controversial majority decision which costs him his unified Middleweight label and three championships namely the International Boxing Organization World Middleweight Title, World Boxing Association Super World Middleweight Title and World Boxing Council World Middleweight Title.
This was also the consecutive week that DAZN showcased a fight in front of the New York fans in the Big Apple. Last week the boxing world was put in a state of shock after replacement challenger Andy Ruiz Jr. knocked out heavily favored Anthony Joshua.
Additionally, the bout was a warm up for Triple G who aims directly at Alvarez for a third match thus regain his precious championships. He even call out “Saul” in his post fight statement.
“Everybody knows. The fans know who they want me to fight next, I’m ready for September. I’m ready for Canelo. Just bring him, just ask him. I’m ready. If you want big drama show, please tell him. I’m ready to bring back the big drama show”
said Golovkin after the fight
He also stated that he feels extatic about this win, “I feel great. Right now I feel completely different because I came back to my knockout, I love knockouts and I love New York. It was a great night all around”, wrapped up Golovkin who improved his record to 39 wins (35 knockouts), 1 loss and 1 draw.
