The string for boxing’s heavyweight upset has come to an end courtesy of none other than the Gypsy King.
In his Top Rank, ESPN and Las Vegas Nevada maiden bout Tyson Fury demolished his opponent Tom Schwarz and gave him the first ever defeat of his professional boxing career on Saturday night inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena en route to retaining his Lineal Heavyweight title. This was his return fight following the controversial draw with Deonty Wilder last December.
Two weeks ago, Andy Ruiz Jr. upsets another champion in the form of Anthony Joshua in Madison Square Garden to make underdogs look favorbale in their respective quest in beating the heavy favorites, but this was a champion’s night and Fury will not be denied.
Fury showed a masterful performance from the very first ring of the bell, he embodied the famous Muhammad Ali fighting style of “Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee” by showing off an impressive head movement to avoid Schwarz’s punches. He then stung like a bee by hitting a string of punches on target to finally stop the German in the second round.
After the fight, he confirmed a rematch between him and Wilder. He also sung the Aerosmith famous song “I don’t want to miss a thing” which ironically what Tom Schwarz wanted to do during the fight but was doing the exact opposite.
This is the first fight under his new contract with the boxing promotion and will see two more within the year. Tyson Fury improved his record to 28 wins (20 by way of knockouts – 69% finish rate) and 1 draw with no loss.
