24 years of waiting and now the lone NBA Team outside the United States of America can finally call themselves as champions.
The Toronto Raptors dethroned the two-time NBA Champions Golden State Warriors in their very last game at Oracle Arena (before moving to Chase Arena next season), 114-110 in Game 6 of this year’s NBA Finals.
Kawhi Leonard successfully halted another three-peat seeking team for the second time in his career en route to a second title and second finals most valuable player award. It can be recalled that Kawhi was part of the San Antonio Spurs team in 2014 where they crushed the three-peat dreams of the Miami Heat led by LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh. He finished the game with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
His teammates also contributed well as Kyle Lowry and Pascal Siakam produced 26 points apiece. Fred VanVleet led the bench mob with 22 points built around 5 three-pointers and Serge Ibaka made significant points of 15 points (with 3 rebounds and 2 assists).
On the other hand, Golden State was led by Klay Thompson who scored 30 points but went out of the game due to an apparent knee injury he suffered during the third quarter of play. Andre Igoudala was the second best scorer with 22 points and was helped by Stephen Curry who produced 21 of his own. Demarcus Cousins (12 points) and Draymond Green (11 points) wrapped up the double digit scoring for the depleted line up who lost Kevin Durant in the previous game due to an Achilles Injury.
