Another testament of sports being bigger than its nature of competition was proven yet again.
Former NBA player and now TNT analyst Charles Barkley donated $45,000 to Milwaukee Bucks’ guard Malcolm Brogdon for his Hoops2O charity.
The verbal donation of Barkley happened during the postgame show between the Milwaukee and Toronto’s game 2 where Brogdon is present.
Right after Malcolm talked about the initiative thay he and other four NBA players (Justin Anderson of the Atlanta Hawks, Joe Harris of the Brooklyn Nets, Garrett Temple of the Memphis Grizzlies and Anthony Tolliver of the Minnesota Timberwolves) have pioneered, Barkley asked the amount needed to produce one well and was quick to spurt out his donation.
“How much does it cost for a well? I’ll give you $45,000 right now.”
This is a project inspired by the “Waterboys” initiative from Chris Long who created the foundation in 2015 to address the clean water problem issue in Africa.
The blueprint of such was Hoops2O’s stimulus. Speaking last October 2018, Malcolm Brogdon said, “I saw from a very young age the value of clean water in communities in Africa. I made a promise to myself that once I reached a time and place in my career where I could do more, I would. When I learned about Chris’ Waterboys initiative and saw their accomplishments by working as a team of players to inspire action, I knew I wanted to expand his vision into the NBA and address our ultimate shared goal to save more lives faster and transform communities”, pointing as to where he got the idea.
